Erasmus+ Staff Training Week 2016 on "Innovative foreign language teaching for specific purposes"

The University Foreign Languages Centre and the Center for the Study of the Hellenic Language and Culture at the University of Ioannina organise a one-week summer school in the framework of the Erasmus+ programme entitled «Innovative foreign language teaching for specific purposes».
The summer school will take place from 27 June to 1 July 2016 at Ionion Star Hotel on Lefkas Island. The working languages are English and/or Greek, depending on the thematic areas the participants select (see below). The programme is addressed to language teachers, academics, teacher trainers, school advisors/directors and students in the field of language learning and teaching.

Participation in the training week includes: 

Lectures on three thematic areas:

  • Teaching Greek as a foreign language
  • Teaching English for Medical purposes
  • Teaching English for Business purposes

  • Lectures by highly-experienced faculty members of the University of Ioannina,
  • Participation in workshops,
  • Educational material,
  • Participants’ short presentations on their Universities,
  • Educational fieldtrips,
  • Networking,
  • Coffee & light lunch breaks,
  • Farewell dinner in town,
  • Certificate of Attendance
  • Shuttle bus service from/to the airport of Aktion National Airport

Course
The course combines a thorough review of the cutting-edge research & most important topics of interest in the field of foreign language teaching for specific, academic and professional purposes. The theoretical sessions are interactive and are complemented with participants’ reflective work and practical sessions, with hands-on activities that promote language learning. The practical sessions will take place in a computer lab on the site.

Indicative training sub-themes:
Developing foreign language policies, using CLIL methodology in foreign language teaching, integrating new technologies in language classrooms, intercultural communicative language teaching.

Learning outcomes:
Familiarisation with innovative foreign language teaching methodologies, practical learning activities, good practices, enhancement of professional skills.
